~ Synopsis ~Carey Baldwin, author of the thrilling novel Confession, returns with a new story featuring two of her most beloved characters. Fans of Tess Gerritsen and Lisa Gardner will devour this riveting story of rivals caught in a killer's twisted web. When a coed falls prey to a sadistic murderer, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Caitlin "Caity" Cassidy and Special Agent Atticus Spenser are called in to testify--one for the defense, one for the prosecution. With warring approaches to justice, these two rivals have been butting heads for years--both inside the courtroom and out. And at first, this case appears to be no different.
But when a brutal attack leaves the accused man dead and Caity in critical condition, petty differences take a backseat to saving lives. As the lone survivor, Caity knows too much, and the killer--a madman calling himself the Man in the Maze--is coming back for round two. Now Caity and Spense must join forces to uncover the killer's identity before Caity's time--and luck--runs out.

I loved Carey Baldwin's first thriller novel Confession so I couldn't wait to dive into her new one! She definitely has a knack for putting together the type of thriller that makes you cringe. The murder scenes in this story are violent and disturbing and probably not for anyone who may be sensitive to this type of content. The scenes kind of reminded me a little of the type of murders you would see in the show True Detective with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson?? Just to give you an idea...
I loved the angsty relationship between Caity and Atticus... I found their back and forth banter very amusing. Always seeming to be on opposite sides in the past, they now find themselves needing to work together to hopefully find the identity of a serial killer. This is an even more urgent situation for Caity since she is clearly a target having barely survived an attack.
Caity was given one clue to the identity of the killer... find the man in the maze. Based on this clue, she and Atticus go on the hunt and uncover the surprising truths behind the murders. And it is a much more complicated and disturbing case than they thought it would be.
Is there love in the air for these two?? Maybe... I think they learned to like each other a little more than when they started.
Looks like their potential blooming love story will be continued in future books... :)
Out of these two books I've read by Carey Baldwin, I do think Confession is still my favorite... but either book would be a good choice for the Psychological Thriller fan.
Judgment is definitely well written, has a well laid out plot and very likeable main characters. The criminals definitely fit the bill for a thriller novel... disturbing, repulsive and crazy! So, proceed with caution...

About the Author
Oh, and before I became a doctor, I used to be a clinical psychologist. I guess that's why writing about psychopaths comes naturally. I still haven't decided precisely what I want to be when I grow up, so you can expect to see me serving up a genre mix. Here's my favorite recipe: A dollop of romance + a dash of medicine + a cup of crazy. Fold into a story. Bake until it rises, and voila, you've cooked up a delicious thriller!
