Sweet Occasions – Linn B Halton + Giveaway!

Festival of Romantic Fiction reader's award for 'Best Author Published' nominee, Linn B Halton, is taking her new feel-good romance novel on tour! Sweet Occasions is set to feature on a host of book blogs over the coming days, so why not follow the action and keep up-to-date with the reviews, exclusive guest posts and excerpts, and a giveaway.
What they say: 'Katie’s relationship has had more than its fair share of problems. After a difficult few years things begin to pick up and Katie finally realises her dream of opening up a bakery. Sweet Occasions specialises in novelty and celebration cakes, plus the most inspiring range of cupcakes anyone could possibly ask for!
Utilising her passion and skill helps to inject happiness back into her life, but it’s short-lived as things begin to fall apart. The reality is that you need to run a business with your heart AND your head. Help is at hand in the shape of her partner, Steve. He has the necessary experience, but does Katie want to tie herself to him financially, as well as personally? Then one rainy, wintry day a bedraggled customer steps inside the door to order a cake … Sometimes a turning point centres around one single moment in time: sometimes it takes two Christmases and three birthdays.'

Sweet Occasions might be the name of the bakery, but it’s also a play on words. The story is about two people who have very separate lives and live many miles apart.
Katie knows she’s choosing to ignore some weighty problems, but in her case the reasoning behind this runs deep. She’s not merely choosing to take the easy way out and turn a blind eye, there’s guilt and history attached to it.
In Adam’s case it’s living with the aftermath of a disastrous split, trying to be a mum and a dad to his daughter when she’s with him, and the fear of losing his main support, a beloved grandmother.
When Adam calls into the shop, what sparks between them is empathy – that instant of recognition when you can almost feel someone else’s pain. It’s easy to share your innermost secrets with a stranger who only flits into and out of your life occasionally. It feels … safe because you are, in effect, strangers. But is that true?
That night, lying in bed next to Steve, my mind is whirling. I tell myself it's only natural that my head is all over the place, as the business is demanding every moment of my time. Truthfully though, there is something deeper gnawing away at me. Every now and then Adam's face stares back at me from inside my head. Katie, Sweet Occasions
Has fate made their paths cross for a reason, and Katie is meant to take a step back and look at her life with honesty? Adam is a good example of why old wounds should be allowed to heal, because if you don’t allow yourself to move on you become stuck. And Katie is stuck, unable to let go of the past and unable to take control of the future. Sometimes the dream has to change … in order to survive.
