What do you want people to know about you and your process?

Both are sketchy and unstable. :)


When did you know writing was what you wanted/needed to do?

I started writing when I was five, but I didn't realize I wanted to BE a writer until I was in high school and my BFF told me. It was a lightbulb moment.


Does any music/situations/media inspire your writing process? If so, what?

Yes, any and all!


Will we see any new works from you soon? What will they be?

Yes! Besides the 11th book in the Charley Davidson series which comes out in January, there will be two more Charley books and a new standalone. No idea what it will be about, but I've never lacked for ideas.

Favorite wine and favorite chocolate :)

If I have to drink wine, I like a sweet moscato. (I'm a teetotaler.) As for chocolate, pretty much any edible item that falls under that spectacular umbrella will suffice, but I am partial to dark chocolate. Le sigh...

Favorite movie/television programs?

My #1 TV show is Elementary. Love love love. I can't even name a favorite movie. Far, far too many.

Top five reads? (all time or current, your choice)

Wow, this is so much harder than I thought it would be! Hmmmm... I'll go with authors instead and those that have inspired me the most:

What are your favorite foods.

Anything with butter on it. Or chocolate. My favorite flavors are definitely Mexican.


What’s the best way fans can reach out to you?

I love to hear from readers!!! The best place would be the contact form on my website. I read them all! It may take me a while to answer, but I also answer them all personally. I'm so grateful for every letter.


Will you be attending any signings or conventions? Where and when?

Yes, besides my personal signings which are usually fairly local (in and around ABQ, NM), I'll be at RT Booklovers Convention, the Tucson Festival of Books, and several other locales. I travel a lot, so check my FB page or my website for more.

    Thanks, KT, for having the lovely Darynda Jones on the blog. Darynda, you rock! I've been writing for a long time as well, but am relatively new-ish to publishing. My question is, was it hard for you when it came to decisions about overcommitting to publishers or just the internal pressure to "produce." Any advice on how to not let that inner voice drive you bats*%t crazy?

      Bpy was it! I can honestly say I've never overcommitted with my publisher. They are amazing and the fact that I am late with every single book is entirely my fault. But there is a certain amount of pressure. You want to top every book. You don't want to let anyone down, especially your readers. You want all the magic you can conjure in every book and then you want more for the next one.

      Sadly, I have found nothing to quite those voices. If you come up with something, please let me know. Everyone has advice and words of encouragement, but it's that inner voice you have to get past. My only advice is to keep your head down, your butt in the chair, and your fingers on the keys and just write the best book you can. I wish I had more for you. Therapy might help. I'm considering it. :)

      Hi! Well, at first I just saved them. I'd been doing that for years anyway. Whenever I'd see a saying I loved, I'd save it in my "favorite sayings" file. But now wonderful readers send them to me. I adore it! I have so many saved and I can never decide which ones to use, there are so many awesome ones.

      But, to get to what is probably the brunt of your question, they are real t-shirts and bumper stickers, and memes. I make up MAYBE one per book. I think I even made up two in one book! I felt very accomplished.

      That would be the one! There was also a short story he wrote that I was in love with. I read it over and over in middle school, but now I can't remember the name of it. It was very F451, tho. He was such an extraordinary writer. His words were pure perfection and he made it look so easy. Ha!

      LOL thank you, Michelle!!! I don't find it harder to come up with ideas, actually. I have so many per book that I inevitably have to throw a couple out because there is just too much going on. That happened with 11th. I had to throw out a major thread because I didn't feel it leant anything to the story and it made the whole thing too all-over-the-place. I know that describes Charley to a tee, but I would feel bad for my wonderful readers to put them through too much of her shenanigans. Hehehe

    Darynda Jones has been my favorite author since I was lucky enough to stumble upon the first book in the Charley series in a used bookstore. I now keep an extra copy of the first book to give to people in order to grow the ranks of the Grimlet Society. Can't wait for your new standalone book!!!

    Love this series! I've been listening via audiobooks through my library. I am now physically reading books 9 and hear Lorelei King's voice, which is almost as good as listening!

    Love love love this series! It wasn't really my kind of genre (but thanks to the Sookie Stackhouse series which I started to read without knowing it was about vampires and such... because I didn't read the blurb,) I started reading more paranormal books. Still not my favorite genre, but I just can't quit you! ;) I love all the humor in your books, which is probably what keeps me hooked. (And I might add, your books are the only one's I've been willing to spend more than $5 on.. for the e-version. But shhhh, don't tell anyone.) :D

    My question is (and I apologize if it's one you get often)... Do you have an end game for the series or do you plan on keeping it going as long as readers are wanting to read them?

    I love these books! Funny,mysterious, supernatural,and romantic - all perfectly meshed into an addictive read that still stimulates your mind. Unlike many books that fall into these genres. Can't wait for book 11

    I love Charley Davidson (and Reyes!!). I first discovered the series while visiting my Mom. We stopped at her local library and I noticed Sixth Grave on the Edge in the New Books section. It looked interesting, so I made my mom check it out for me. :p Soooo glad I did! I loved it! As soon as I got home, I ordered the rest of the series. Love them all! Can't wait for #11!

    I love this series! Darynda Jones has a writing style that just draws you in. Mystery, Intrigue, humor - it's all there in each book. I'm not generally a bookworm, but I wait anxiously for each new installment in this story. What will Charley and Reyes do next? I can't wait to find out!     I can't believe you love Judith Mcnaught! She is so super underrated!!She was the first romance author I ever read! I know her books are from the 90s but they are still some of the best books ever! You can relate to all the characters and situations!     This is so cool!! I won the first book way back when you just started out and have been hooked ever sense. It is hard to believe that you are already up to book 11! I have the first 5 and cannot wait to get the others and keep reading (they are on my Christmas list).     I love this series so much....can't wait for 11! Have you ever eaten at Sharkey's? My sister took us there when we visited her in Abq. We did a multi state road trip (11 total) that also included CA and AZ. Sharkey's had the best tacos we had on that trip!

    I love these books so much and have loved them since I found a copy of the 3rd book in a half priced books store. I was so intrigued by the story that I went and searched for all the books I could find and haven't been able to put down the books since. I pre-order the books as soon as I can and read through the books. I have read and reread the series more times than I can count and I never get tired of it. I would love to own these all in paperback because I only have them on ebook currently. It is my favorite book series and I eagerly look forward to the next book to see what adventures lay ahead!

    Darynda is one of my favorite authors -I could read her Grave series over and over. It is so hilarious that I've actually snorted my humongous cafe mocha (I don't recommend it by the way). But let's be serious, I keep coming back for Reyes - say it with me Reeeeeeyyyyyeeeesssssss. That yummy bunch of badassness could set your hair on fire with a look. But he only has eyes for the love of his extraordinary life.......Charley . I count the days until her next book.

    I found this series one day, I don't know how but I'm so happy for discover all these fantastic characters and a amazing writer. Charley changed my life, I'm from Colombia and here it's so difficult found this book. I'm studying English because one of my dreams is read all the series in English and with the physical books.     I have read all of them. I stumbled across the very first one by accident or was it meant to be. My life is so full like everyone else's taking care of the family and etc.. That I don't make a lot of extra time for me, but when I have Charley and Reyes in my hand all things can wait just for awhile. This is just what I needed a bit of a breather. I have imagine these books coming to life in movie form and oh that would be awesome sauce . My family even respects when me when there is a new book on the house to just let Mom be, she's on the adventure. I would love to win of these. ��

    I own these books in print, but winning a signed set would allow me to give a set to my youngest sister - who is an avid reader and who had a fantastic book collection until her house burnt down a few years ago. I've been helping by giving her books, but ongoing series haven't been a priority to get for her, especially ones she hasn't discovered yet.     Oh my gosh this would literally make my life ���� I remember searching for something to read in a little literary in the middle of nowhere, where I used to live a couple of years ago, and I found the first four books to this series. Ever since then these books remain my absolute favorites and inspire me to write books of my own one day �� I have a dire need to own all of them ������

    I've gotten to the age where, if I start reading a book or watching TV or a movie and I am not feeling connected to the characters or story line, I just stop and start something else. Life is too short to waste time on those kinds of things. Having said that, I have reread Darynda's Charlie Davidson books because they're just that good. I love the writing, the characters, the humor, okay, everything. Thanks, Darynda!!! Rock on!

    Love the Charley Davidson Series........started with the book #9 The Dirt Grave Nine........and was hooked.....then started with Book #1 to #8 and right on to Book #10........the Character Charley is smart, with wise crack remarks....and the humor makes me laugh out loud while I'm reading....following on Facebook....Valerie Improta Rosica

    I really admire your imagination. The Charley Davidson Series is my favorite. I love the sence of humor of Charley and how sexy is Reyes. They are the perfecte combination... Like so goals.
