There is a fine line between 'doormat' and genuine love and acceptance. Tate could easily come across as 'doormat'. She doesn’t. It’s like she has a sixth sense. Maybe it’s because she's a nurse and sees more into pain and human nature that others, maybe it’s that the pull she feels toward Miles is just too strong. I dunno; but for whatever reason, it works.

Miles is very much the emotionally broken man. You get that right off. What happens within the pages of Ugly Love is a strong adolescent love that is decimated. We travel back and forth in time in the POV of a young Miles to the present POV of Tate. It’s sweet as well as heartbreaking.

Miles' POV is read with such trepidation, obliviously something catastrophic happens. I had perpetual goose bumps while reading his past POV. I wasn't sure what was gonna jump out of the closet. Tate though, she just broke my heart. She loves, she needs, she sees so much in Miles. Ah, the longing.

It’s a gut-wrenching read of a journey to self forgiveness. Beautifully written.
