Blurb

I am loyal, but I will betray you.
I am strong, but I have scars.
I am an angel, but the devil.
I met her when I was sixteen and she was a breath of fresh air. She swooped in, making me smile. But then she left, taking my next breath with her.
Her smile could light up a room, making my black heart pitter patter.
I found her again ten years later, with a syringe in her arm.
Blood coming from between her legs.
She was broken and I was glad she was broken. She wouldn't think less of me and my damaged ways.

I love the way this author tells a story... The last book I read by this author was titled Pure Punishment and I loved it. This is a book that will certainly satisfy those readers who like dark characters with a glimmer of light lurking underneath the surface. That is the best way to describe this couple. They are both products of the tragic events that happened to them. But, the people they were in the present were not the people they were supposed to be. And, only they knew that about each other.
I liked this book mostly because of how cleverly the author twisted the way these two connected in childhood to how that came back to both haunt them and save them nearly a decade later. Their coupling really worked because neither one of them were good people in the present. But, they both remembered who they were from the past. And in some crazy way that is all they needed to find their way back to the part of them that was good.
You do need to be able to put morality to the side a bit in order to truly enjoy this book. Black is well... a very dark character who does the unthinkable for a living. He has no conscience... or does he?? He appears soulless to everyone around him except in the eyes of one woman... Rose.
This is another one of those books that you should probably go into without knowing too much about the plot and the characters. So, don't read too many reviews before you dive in... trust me on that one.
I read this almost in one sitting and that is rare for me... so, that says a lot about the story itself. It definitely held my attention from start to finish.
This is a book for lovers of darker reads and are ok with violent content, drug addiction, prostitution, bad biker behavior and the like. There are no softies in this book, except for the children who somehow makes tough guys turn into saps and go weak in the knees. **wink wink** I love it when that happens...
This "sort of" ends on a cliffy... but, not in a bad way. I got plenty of closure to satisfy me until the next book comes out. And, you will want to read the next book when you're done for several reasons. And, one of those is Jake... Black's best friend. I loved how his character slowly bloomed into a guy that you are aching to see him get an HEA. I would love a book about him.
T.L. Smith fans will certainly want to devour this one... and, even if you're not familiar with this author... give this a go... I don't think you will be disappointed!
4 stars!
EXCERPT

“They say I bring nothing but black, darkness. Though, when I’m with you, all I see is color, and fuck, it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen, Rose,” he says from between my breasts. I reach for my shirt and pull it free, then unclasp my bra. His head lifts while I do this, then he lays right back between them. His breath is heavy and hot on my nipple.
My body shakes, excitement fills me. He does this to me, puts all the right emotions back into me. How could someone with what they say is a black soul do such things to another human being? He isn’t what they say, not when he’s with me. He’s nothing but good, caring, and even loveable when he’s with me.
“I’m going to claim you, Rose,” he whispers and his mouth touches my nipple softly, making me squirm. He licks it, then kisses it, then bites it hard. Pulling it between his teeth.
“Why?” I ask, gripping his hair tight.
“Because I will make you never forget me.”
“I could never forget you.”
“You did once.”
“I didn’t.”
