Crashing Into You by B.D. Rowe - Tour
Bookish college sophomore Sydney Baker wants Evan Taylor with every
ounce of her being. The hottest stud on campus, Evan is six foot four,
ripped, stacked with muscles. He’s even easy to talk to.
There’s just one problem: he’s her roommate Melanie’s boyfriend.
But when Melanie tragically dies after a night of wild partying, Sydney and Evan turn to each other in a time of intense grief. And it doesn’t take long for their close friendship to blossom into something more.
Unfortunately for Sydney, secrets from the past soon put her relationship with Evan to the test. Especially when a sexy blonde freshman makes her way into Evan’s life, and tries to rip away everything Sydney holds close to her heart.

The Leading Lady in Crashing
Into You
By B.D. Rowe
It was apparent early on that I wanted my New Adult debut to
be told from the first person perspective of the lead female character. Sydney
was always the main character when I first started mapping out the story, and
because of all the tragedy her character goes through, I wanted to be able to
capture not just her physical reactions but her internal ones as well. Sydney
is an attractive sophomore in college, with a thin physique and long black
hair. Would she be considered the hottest girl on campus? Nowhere near it. But
she is pretty in her own way, and Evan recognizes early on that the mix of her
looks, intelligence, and personality make for someone he wants to keep close by
and get to know, even while he’s going through his own romantic rutt with
Melanie.
Sydney, like Evan, is a flawed character, and one who goes
through many developments throughout the course of the book. At the beginning,
she is still reeling from the death of her high school boyfriend, suffering
through nightmares and trying to lead a normal life. Two guys on campus make
everything all right: Lukas, her gay best friend; and Evan, the boy she’s had a
crush on since freshman year. Sydney hates that she’s crushing on the boy who’s
dating her roommate, Melanie, but she can’t help it. Sometimes the heart wants
what it wants! She never wanted or wished for Melanie to die, but months after
it happens, something finally starts to happen between her and Evan, and why
not let it? It’s not an easy road ahead, though, with the attention she pays to
anyone drinking alcohol, and the obsessive worry she has over Michelle,
Melanie’s younger sister who enrolls at the university as a freshman. In the
end, she learns a devastating secret about Evan that changes everything. What
will she choose to do next?
I based Sydney on someone I used to know in my college days,
who was much more studious than Sydney is in the book. This girl never consumed
alcohol, but unlike Sydney, she’d had a boyfriend since high school and never
even looked at a guy on campus twice. I wanted to make a more compassionate and
romantic girl than this girl was, but still retain some of her attributes. If
Crashing Into You were ever made into a movie, my number one choice for Sydney would
be Abigail Breslin. She’s the right age to play the character right now and
would bring the perfect blend of romance, optimism, and angst to the character.
