I really liked this book... it already had me at hello with the whole food/romance thing which is high on my list of favorite themes for romance. And, add to that a gorgeous British man who is good in the kitchen and knows how to handle his gelato and that just made it even better! I also love all things Italian and really enjoyed Lili's character and how she is coping with being a part of this big Italian family while running the family restaurant. The opening scene really cracked me up... Wonder Woman! What man wouldn't be swooned over by a surprise attack by Wonder Woman. Probably up there next to Princess Leia I bet...
I was in the mood for something kind of easy on the heart and the emotions and this book was a perfect fit. Just two people who are stuck in a rut and trying to break free of the personas that they have been given by the people around them. We've all been there I think... there is who I really want to be and then there is the person I am because that is who everyone else wants me to be.
Lili was overweight in high school and even though she has lost the weight and has learned to embrace her lovely curves she never really lost the fear of putting herself out there. Jack has been officially labeled the womanizer and his famous lifestyle is starting to wear him down. He just wants something real but is having a hard time getting that due to the assumptions everyone has made about his character.
Jack comes to town to do a cook-off with Lili's father but what he didn't expect was to be getting hot in the kitchen with Lili instead.
I loved how well these two fit together and how they both seemed to be able to bring out strengths in the other that they didn't know they had. I didn't expect this book to be emotionally engaging but for whatever reason I was really able to connect with Lili and her fears and her need to take care of everyone. It was time for her to start taking care of herself and Jack helped her realize that. Jack needed to go back to his roots and what truly made him happy and Lili was just the magnet he needed to draw him back where he belonged.
This book had just the right amount of humor, steam, story and likability all wrapped up in a nice little HEA. The only complaint that I had was the timeline of the romance. It was a little fast so that is why this is a 4 star rating instead of a 5.

I won a copy of this book through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway!

IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT . . .
Photographer Lili DeLuca spends all her time managing her family's Italian restaurant, instead of following her dream of getting an MFA. When famous British chef Jack Kilroy unexpectedly challenges her father to a cook-off, Lili decides she's tired of playing it safe and vows to seduce the tempting Brit. But once a video of her and Jack kissing goes viral and her luscious butt starts trending on Twitter, Lili fears she's cooked up a recipe for disaster . . .

. . . GET INTO THE BEDROOM
Jack Kilroy's celebrity has left him feeling used and used up. While Lili's oh-so-sexy moans when she tastes his delicious creations turn him on, he's even more aroused by how unimpressed this beautiful, funny woman is with his fame. He knows they could be amazing together, if she could only see past his bitch fork-wielding fan base. Now as he's about to start a new prime time TV cooking show, can Jack convince Lili to realize her own ambitions - and turn up the heat in his kitchen?
