Before We Fall by Courtney Cole
One dark moment was all it took to turn
twenty-four-year-old Dominic Kinkaide's world black. On the night of his
high school graduation, a single incident changed him forever, and he
became a hardened man-famous in the eyes of the
world, but tortured inside. Now all he cares about is losing himself in
the roles that he plays.
At twenty-three years old, Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but an absence of moments. She tries to find acceptance in the arms of men to fill the void-a plan that has worked just fine for her, until she meets Dominic. When jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, the combination of his secrets and her issues turns their attraction into the perfect storm. It could change their lives for good-if it doesn't tear them both apart…

“Are you feeling warm yet?”
I watch his lips as he speaks the words, husky and low. His lips are full, yet manly
and suddenly I ache to lean over and press mine to his, to touch them in any way that I
can.
But I don’t.
Because I’m not a girl who gets used. Not anymore.
“No, not at all.”
But Dominic takes that as a challenge. He’s not used to hearing the word no and
he’s not about to start now. I see that in his dark eyes a scant moment before he dips
his head and consumes my mouth.
I say consume, instead of kiss, because that’s what he does.
He consumes me.
His lips are fiery and hot and he kisses me with a fierceness that touches a secret
part of me; moist, hot, firm, sexy. I want to inhale him, to suck him down. I vaguely feel
his hands on my back, his warmth emanating through my clothes, his hardness pushing
into my softness.
I’m breathless when he pulls away.
“What about now?”

Before We Fall (Beautifully
Broken #3)
really wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It just seemed so different from the
last book in the series. Not a bad thing, as Before we fall is about completely different people. It just
took me by surprise is all. Was it a bad thing? At first my thoughts were ‘yes’!
When did we take a turn into BDSM/voyeurism? But what the story was really about
was trying to heal from the past, and distance oneself from any real emotions.
The movie star heartthrob,
the emotionless shell of a man he once was - The mystery of his heartbreak and
the death of his girlfriend from years ago is an underlying current throughout.
He keeps himself at a distance from family and friends, letting the pain from
the past just eat away his inner calm.
Jacey Vincent,
waitress (and all around wreck) is just trying to get her life together. Guilt
and self doubt plague her as she tries to fix her life after her actions cause
a murder and death. (in previous books in the series) Jacey is stunned when
after asking Dominic for a ride home, they are subsequently arrested for drug possession
when drugs are found in Dom’s car.
What happens while serving
community serves will change both their lives. It’s a hard road, but learning
to let go of the past and live in the now doesn’t always come easy when truths
are hidden and trust is broken, especially from the people who you should be
able to trust the most: family.
I highlighted many quotes from
this book, too many to even list. I wall also say this one was a bit weird for
me. Although I really like this author and have thoroughly loved her previous
books in the series, at times, I did feel
like I was reading two different books. I don’t know. Dominic’s’ erratic behavior
perplexed me, and maybe that is exactly what it was supposed to do.
“Before we fall, we fly” –
my favorite quote <3
