Thank you, @GCP, for the 4th installment of the Frankie Elkin series! Buy now -  https://amzn.to/3HCn3A0 Recent Afghan refugee and young mother Sabera Ahmadi was last seen exiting her place of work three weeks ago. The local police have yet to open a case, while her older, domineering husband seems unconcerned. At the insistence of Sabera's closest friend, missing persons expert Frankie Elkin agrees to take up the search just in time for a video of Sabera to surface—showing her walking away from the scene of a brutal double murder.   Frankie quickly notes there's much more to the Ahmadi family than meets the eye. The father Isaad is a brilliant mathematician, Sabera a gifted linguist, and their little girl Zahra has an uncanny ability to remember anything she sees. Which given everything that has happened during the girl's short life, may be a terrible curse. When Isaad also disappears under mysterious circumstances and an attempt is made on Zahra's life, Frankie re...

Children of the Book by Ilana Kurshan

Image
Buy now -  https://amzn.to/4lW8166 In Children of the Book, Ilana Kurshan reveals how literature weaves an invisible thread through the tapestry of family life. Kurshan, a mother of five living in Jerusalem, struggles to balance her passion for books with her responsibilities as a parent. Gradually, she learns how to relate to reading not as a solitary pursuit and an escape from the messiness of life, but rather as a way of forging connection and teaching independence. Introducing her children to sacred and secular literature―including the beloved classics of her childhood―she becomes both a better mother and a more compassionate reader. Chief among the books Kurshan reads with her children is the Torah, whose ancient wisdom illuminates her family's path. Structured in five parts corresponding to the first five books of the Bible, this memoir traces the profound parallels between the biblical narrative and the daily rhythms of parenthood – from the first picture books that create ...

Lover Forbidden by J.R. Ward

Image
In 2013, I picked up the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, Dark Lover. The first six books in the series specifically hold a very special place in my book-loving heart. Since those first six books, JR Ward has expanded her series, adding a collection and supporting cast of characters that feel like family. Now, a new generation is taking the lead. Lover Forbidden has breached the past and the present. Something about it feels reminiscent of those first six books with the camaraderie and the getting-to-know-you’s.  It’s like a fresh new series, but with the comfort and guiding hands of those who have taken up the mantle before them, giving them a soft space to land. I’m gonna let this emotion be my review. Simply because there is so much happening, and I don’t want to spoil a first reading experience for anyone. Especially the hard-core fans. You're gonna be blown away. Below are a few favorite quotes without any context other than they made me happy. “You’re ...
