Felicity Heaton definitely did not disappoint in this third installment of the eternal mates series... it was a bit darker, conflicting and emotional.
This is the story of our Mad Elf Prince... he finally meets his eternal mate. The bad part is that she is the very thing he hates and fears the most... a witch.
Vail was enslaved and tortured by a witch for 4000 yrs and forced to do horrible and unforgiveable acts against his own people. Even though he is now free he is still haunted and very much controlled by his past demons. He is in constant turmoil over his desire to love his mate but also his hate for her being a witch. He wants to both kill her and love her... an internal battle between dark and light. My heart went out to poor Rosalind. She was in a constant state of confusion and his behavior towards her was hurtful. I was very proud of her when she finally took a stand. They were the perfect match in the end... she was his light in the dark. And, he, in a small way, was the same for her.
This book is a roller coaster ride of emotional ups and downs. Slowly watching Vail come to terms with his past and learn to open himself up to trusting and loving his kiara was no easy task.
I will admit that the internal dialogue of Vail drove me crazy at times... but, I guess that is the point... I definitely felt his conflict and it was appropriate considering his past. His character had to be so hard to write... and, I thought the author handled it beautifully.
The end is what sealed my 5 star rating. I seriously got all choked up... big tears I tell you! There is something about a tortured hero finding his HEA that has me reaching for my Kleenex! I'm a sucker for these characters... gets me every time! His character reminds me of Zsadist in the BDB series... yep, cried like a baby when he found his HEA too.
Anyway... LOVE this series... can't wait for more!
