Secrets and Lies (Cassie Scot #2) by Christine Amsden
Christine Amsden knows how
to pull the reader in! I was worried after reading book one that the sophomore book
would be somehow less. Boy was I wrong! With the world building out of the way
Amsdens characters have the opportunity to come to life in the best possible
way!
Cassie is still struggling
with her family and the decisions they have made about her. Cassie is learning
the hard way that what has always been done for her in the past by magical
parents isn’t so easy in the real world when the bills are due. As a reader I have so much emotion for Cassie’s
character dealing with what seems to be unfair attitude and behavior from so
many around her. But life isn’t fair.
Evan is as sexy as ever in
book two. Still keeping Cassie’s safety very much in his thinking and trying to
find a happy medium with the result of her debt owed him. How can they know
what is real and what isn’t? Oh the path to that discovery is so good!
We get to see and
understand a bit if Cassie’s mothers past and get some revelations into why the
family has made some of the decisions concerning Cassie. We also get a great
side story involving Cousin Jason (OMG!!!!)
Ultimately we are left chomping
at the bit for book three!
4.5 Stars!
KT Book Reviews spoke with Christine and this is what she had to say about the next book,
Mind Games coming April 2014
Here's what I can tell you about Mind Games right now:
1. The tentative release date is April 15, 2013.
2.
Cassie will be investigating
the murder of David McClellan when the book begins. (If you remember
him from the first couple of books, you know he's no big loss. :) ) His
won't be the only murder in this book, though.
3. Matthew Blair, a mind mage, is going to develop an interest in Cassie. She will find his suit... compelling.
4. Evan will not stop trying to save Cassie, but things between them are going to get worse in this book.
5.
Tensions
rise between some of the regular citizens of Eagle Rock and the magic
users when a minister's wife dies -- and magic is suspected.
6. You're going to meet more of Eagle Rock's magical residents and learn more about the magical world.
Cassie Scot, still
stinging from her parents' betrayal, wants out of the magical world. But it
isn't letting her go. Her family is falling apart and despite everything, it
looks like she may be the only one who can save them.
To complicate matters, Cassie owes Evan her life, making it difficult for her to deny him anything he really wants. And he wants her. Sparks fly when they team up to find two girls missing from summer camp, but long-buried secrets may ruin their hopes for happiness. Book 2 in the Cassie Scot Mystery series.
"Christine Amsden unleashes her brilliant storytelling magic as the adventures of Cassie Scot escalate to the extreme. Rife with betrayal and a debt too deep for money to clear, Secrets and Lies plunges the reader into an utterly believable world where villains and heroes spring lifelike from the pages. Brace for a whirlwind ride of sorcery, romance and knife-edge peril. A truly original urban fantasy. Not to be missed!" –Kim Falconer, bestselling author of The Spell of Rosette, Quantum Enchantment Series.

Christine Amsden has
been writing science fiction and fantasy for as long as she can
remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be
inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun,
magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real
people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine
writes primarily about people and it is in this way that she strives to
make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.
Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. They have two beautiful children.
