Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead

Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1)Completely amazing. Those were my first words after reading Gameboard of the Gods Age of X Series. From the writing style, to the original storyline, to the chemistry between these characters. Simply amazing.

I’ll say it again, the storyline is incredible. Justin March, an exiled investigator of the supernatural and religious groups is called back into service. Mae Koskinen, his protector is one of the nation’s most lethal soldiers. The best way I can describe these two is by TV references. Moonlighting meets Castle, meets Elementary, meets Remington Steele. Did I say great chemistry?  (yeah I threw in some old school references) The night they meet sets up their working and personal relationship. Hot and antagonistic.

In order for Justin to come back to work he asks for favors that assembles a great cast of characters.  They live in a futuristic America. Separate societal classes and wild religious cults. It’s a drug and microchip enhanced society. Although this is futuristic, women are treated more in keeping with ancient thought of dowries and arranged marriages. Ancient Gods and their servants are at work to manipulate and scheme for their own end game.  There is so much going on in this world Richelle Mead has created but it all flows together in a powerful and exciting book that will keep you glued to the pages.

POV’s change within three main characters.  Seeing this world through different eyes and emotions adds so much.  There are so many other nuances and elements that I haven’t even touched on in this review but I will leave that up to you to discover.

5 AMAZING STARS
There is already a second book planned for Age of X series and I cannot wait!

From the cover……..
In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military’s most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills.

When Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders, they soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board.

Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such megasuccesses: sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; and relentless action and suspense
