Hadley Arrington is the
career-driven editor-in-chief of her university’s prestigious
newspaper. Jack Diamond is a laidback student whose good looks have made
things even easier than they need to be. She’s the girl who came out of
nowhere and kissed him in the rain. He’s the boy who made her do
something crazy.
When the stakes seem too high, they have to decide if they’ll let their love show or if they’ll walk away for good.

Author’s Take on Jack
I wish I knew where Jack came from! I started writing the
book in the summer, and it was a very different story at the time. Jack's the
character who was the most constant through each draft, and I don't know
exactly how I put him together.
I do know that I wanted to write a romantic lead who seemed
like he'd be great husband material one day. Someone who was charming and funny
and outgoing, but also gentle. Jack's not just gentle with Hadley and his
mother, but everyone he cares about. You'll see that in the way he treats
Hadley's best friend, David, and his godfather. He doesn't have a high
tolerance for people who hurt other people.
He's not perfect. He's willfully directionless, because he
doesn't like to think too far in the future. Even though he's learned how to
control it, he has a bit of a temper. He'd rather not have people worry about
him, so he deflects concern and downplays things with bother him.
Since the book is told from Hadley's point of view, readers
might miss out on the fact that Jack very much initiates their relationship.
He's fascinated by her and he likes talking to her and he's got absolutely no
shame about saying what he thinks.
